Bodhisattva
Obviously I've been inspired by eastern art in the form of anime, but I'm also a big fan of indian painting. The Hindu and Buddhist art from India is very colorful and fanciful. It is also rich with symbolism. One of the commonly depicted subjects is a Buddha or Bodhisattva. Both terms mean enlightened being, but with different connotations or criteria. Art with hindu themes often depicts gods, and daevas and the various celestial heavens and earthly hells.
This is the beloved, immortal bodhisattva holding a lotus flower that symbolized the blooming of the enlightened mind, I think...

Katsten Comics Character Sheet
Katsten, Jessicat, Phillip, Alastor, & Old Man Sprout |
I have half a mind to restart my old comic series - The Adventures of Katsten, which features a clowder of alley cats with a Freegan attitude. An adventure awaits them when they are uprooted from their makeshift town and forced into the wild blue yonder. Led by the aspiring leader and philosopher Katsten and her best friend Jessicat the skillful craftscat, the group bravely ventures where no feline has gone before, meeting new friends and adversaries along the way.

Lady Lion
An old drawing of the Sphinx I made several years ago that I found in the same box as the cyberpunk drawing. The lion body has been given more substance and realistic features. I kept her face cat-like, but still very human. As of yet, I am still considering the wings that extend from her arms.

California Camping Sketches
15 min. Ball-Point pen sketches
What a great camping trip in the Los Padres Forest. I spent most of my time reading and relaxing (and maybe a few minutes oogling a super-cute camp ranger). Flocks of turkey, meandering deer and gnarled oaks -- my type of thing!

Ephedra - Avestan Painting Sketch
A sketch of the personified ephedra plant - the plant commonly believed to be the mystic plant Haoma of Zoroastrian ritual. THe sketch on the left is fun and related, but I'm not gonna use it for anything.

Match Maker - my submission to Laluzapalooza
Title: Match Maker
Size: 6"x9"
Medium: Gouache
Date: November 2011
A falconer with her love-struck kestrels. Unfortunately it didn't make it into the group show, but here it is for all to enjoy on my blog.
A few people have asked if they hadn't seen this sketch a few years earlier. This piece was completed around 2011, but never exhibited.

Cyber Punk
I drew and penned this character design in my sketchbook sometime in 2010 and then completely forgot about it until I was thumbing through my old work today.

Excursion to LA Natural History Museum
I briefly visited the Los Angeles Natural History Museum while down south this weekend. It was a cool experience, because it was the night the museum was hosting a concert. I didn't get much drawing done, but I was happy to listen to some cool music.
I really liked the material at the museum so I hope to go back to draw more soon.
